Some pictures of Shimoda - the largest city in the southern part of Izu. Shimoda is the area where Perry arrived in Japan in the second half of the 19th century, eventually prompting the country to open toward the world.

The shrine where the first American-Japanese treaty was signed can still be visited today.

The city itself is quite nice, and every time we go there we enjoy walking around.

But the best are the beaches: not crowded, like that one in June, and readily accessible!
