Izu is a large peninsula located rather close to Tokyo - and is one of my favourite destination from Tokyo... Especially when Hassen and Yuki were living in Japan, we very often enjoyed onsen there.

Have also a look at the southern part and the western part of Izu!

After some walk around the east cost - the more touristy one, as there are no train on the west coast - we finally enjoyed a last onsen in another ryokan: Fujiyoshi is an extremely expensive ryokan (expect to pay more than 20'000 yens per night and per person - with the food), but absolutely fabulous: very old buildings, great surroundings, and the baths are incredible: large mixed baths with a view on the distant sea, family bath that can accommodate 6-8 persons... and almost no one there. Even if it is quite cheap if you don't overnight there...
