Hanami in Shinjuku Gyoen (05/04/10)

Here come again the most famous season in Japan: the cherry blossom period, which this year was significantly later, due to a rather rigorous winter. This year, we decided to go for hanami in Shinjuku Gyoen, a famous spot for the cherry trees. But since this park is not free, closes at 4:30 pm and do not (officially, at least) let people drink alcohol in it, we were hoping to be in a less crowded environment. Quite a mistake, the park was really busy. Fortunately, at the same time, it is really a huge one, so we could find a good place to eat and even walk around.

Several types of sakura trees are found in Shinjuku Gyoen, and since their blossom periods change, sakura flowers can be seen during a full month in this park (see the web site in English for more details : http://www.shinjukugyoen.go.jp/sakura/english-sakura.html).

The lunch was really nice - sushi, foie gras, wine from Alsace and Bordeaux... It was far too hot to eat a cheese fondue.

And two more pictures taken while we were walking around the park...
