First, I want to thank the
people from the shukubo, they organize everything for us, help us
a lot and recommend it to everybody (see page about Shukubo)
After visiting Yodono-san,
we went in direction of Gassan, closed, but on the way we can visit
a temple with a mummy. Next year I want to go there again for the
ascencion of the mountain

You will also not see a picture
of the mummy, but some explanation because as me when I arrived,
I compared it to an egyptian one.
So, here they don't prepare
the mummy after the death of the person. A guy decide to becomes
a mummy and during like say around 15 years has a special diet,
eating nuts, vegetable like this. And the guy becomes thicker and
thicker. After many years with this kind of meal, he decide to eat
and drink less and less, and when he feel the death very close,
has a special drink. About this drink, if you know the bowl used
by japanese to eat, the paste used to make the red colour inside
is the base of the beverage.
After the guy died, they
don't have to make special preparation, because with this diet,
he is already like a mummy. Very stange to understand (all explanation
in Japanese for me), but main point is : he decide to become a mummy
to be more powerful in order to protect, bring, give more to the
common people.
Before you could see three
mummies in this temple, nowadays only one more left.
